Many tourist pass by the city of Siquirres on their way to the Tortuguero National Park. The word "Siquirres" is from the indigenous languange of the zone and it means "red".

Agriculture is the main economic activity of the zone mainly producing bananas, cocoa, corn, and coconuts.

Fishing is very abundant in the Pacuare, Parismina, and Reventazon rivers.

Many tourist both national and international pass by the city of Siquirres on their way to the Tortuguero National Park. There is a constant boat service to the Parismina, Tortuguero and Barra del Colorado areas from nearby Cano Blanco. These areas have become famous for its excellent fishing of Tarpon and Snook.
