Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve

First Protected Area in Costa Rica This beautiful national park is located at the outer tip of the Nicoya penisula and it holds the honor of being the first protected area of Costa Rica established in 1963.

On the outer part of the park heading out to the Pacific Ocean is the Cabo Blanco island. The island is a bird sanctuary all covered with white guano, which gives it and the park its particular name of "Cabo Blanco".
