Dredging the river?
Costa Rica is a peace-loving country that decided to abolish its army in 1948.
Since that time, Costa Rica has decided to invest in the education of its people by building an "army of teachers", thus achieving a remarkably high literacy level.
Costa Rica does not have any military means to defend itself from indiscriminate aggressions.
Therefore, we have decided to publish this photo to let the international community know what is really happening in the San Juan River.
You can clearly see how the Nicaraguan government has invaded Costa Rican soil and is building an illegal artificial canal that will eventually re-route the San Juan river. In this way they will "conquer" a big chunk of Costa Rica, gain a shorter way to the Caribbean sea, and destroy the wetland forests in the area forever.
Costa Rica's only wish is to live in peace, protect nature, and be respected by its neighbors.
Let's hope that reason, law, and respect will prevail at the end.
This picture was taken in late November 2010, the devastation of the forest is getting worse as time passes.
A picture says more than a thousand words!
